Vision
Jewish nonprofits which are focused, disciplined and strategic.
Mission
To give undergraduate students who are focused on improving the Jewish community the skills to think systemically and strategically.
Broad Goals
· Acquaint JSET fellows to the operations of Jewish non-profits
· Empower JSET fellows with strategic planning concepts
Why?
In light of the current economic situation, organizations will need to reevaluate with laser-like precision their vision, structure and strategy. The organizations which are not clear on their goals and do not have defined strategies will be forced to close during these economic times. This is an opportunity to pressure nonprofits to be more like a business, showing tangible impact for a minimal amount of money allocation.
There are many sites which monitor and post nonprofit spending, but few which show their effectiveness. Recently, donors have been asking for measures of effectiveness, forcing some nonprofits to think and even present their materials differently. In the current environment this will become even more prevalent. It is crucial, for the Jewish Community, that more nonprofits become outcome focused.
Furthermore, there is enormous competition between non-profits to obtain quality personnel, and Jewish non-profits are vying with museums, universities, medical charities and other groups to lure in new developmental professionals. Additionally, the number of non-profit organizations, Jewish and secular alike, are increasing at a staggering rate, causing the demand for effective human capital to outpace the supply.
The solution we are proposing is in training the ‘Next-Gen’ to think strategically, preparing them to make best use of the scarce resources. They are the human capital entering into the sector. Through empowering them; the sector can continue to impact our lives even in these tough economic times.
How?
We offer a diverse array of topics consisting of areas such as marketing strategy, grants and social entrepreneurship, from experts in their fields. All of our sessions concentrate on the 'how to,' walking students through the process of identifying the core of problems down to the tactics of a solution.
Typical Schedule:
8:05pm - 8:10 Intro (Background of speaker)
8:10pm - 8:15 Goals for the evening
8:15pm - 8:35 Presentation of 'case study'
8:35pm - 8:50 Analysis of Case study in groups of 4
8:50pm - 9:30 Presentation and discussion of proposed solutions with entire group
9:30pm -10:00 Closing points and questions
This model keeps fellows actively engaged, allowing them to sharpen their cognitive abilities as well as have a great time.
Our program includes opportunities for fellows to apply their knowledge in strategic thinking, further developing their skills.
This is made possible with our partnership with various Jewish organizations. Our fellows have already successfully taken on projects in a consulting/intern capacity.
